Recipients of a 2004 Alpinist B-Team grant, Kelly Cordes and Josh Wharton opened the Azeem Ridge (VII 5.11 R/X M6 A2, 7,400′), a new route leading to the West Summit (ca. 20,506′) of Great Trango Tower (20,624′), July 24?28, 2004. After running out of fuel, the two climbed for forty-eight hours without water; their experience represented a harrowing ?unveiling? of human potential. A full account of the expedition appears in Issue 9.
