Days after his one hour and twenty-two minute solo of the Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome, Alex Honnold has soloed a linkup known as the “Yosemite Triple Crown” in only eighteen hours. The link-up, which Honnold completed a few weeks ago with Tommy Caldwell in just over twenty-one hours, is a combination of Mt. Watkins, El Capitan and Half Dome. According to Tom Evans of El Cap Reports, Honnold began on Mt. Watkins around 4 p.m. on June 5 and by 10:45 a.m. the next morning, he had topped out Half Dome, free soloing about ninety percent of the climbs, and doing the rest with aid. Shortly after completing the climbs, Honnold posted to his Facebook page, “Soloing big walls sure makes me sleepy.” While Honnold may now be catching up on much need rest, the eighteen hour linkup has caused some to speculate that this was only practice for a much bigger project.
